At the core of community are people with unique lived experiences. We must seek the truth of their collective experience by engaging with them directly and learning from them. This is necessary if we are serious about creating equitable change as we cannot assume we know the best from afar. Effective allyship is rooted in this as we all must listen and learn before we move quick to provide support and aid to our communities or a community we are not from.
